Mapes-R Infill Panel

The Green Solution for Glazing Applications: High Thermal Values, Increased Energy Efficiency

The “Green” Solution for Glazing Applications

With insulation values up to R=40, Mapes-R panels offer a wide variety of solutions to improve the thermal efficiency of window, spandrel, curtain wall and glazing applications. Mapes-R panels can be manufactured to match any architectural finish including Kynar, anodized, powder coat, stainless steel, baked enamel, and more. In addition to thermal improvement, Mapes-R panels can meet local building codes for sound, fire and impact resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I use insulated infill panels instead of glass or mesh panels?

You should use Mapes-R insulated infill panels when visibility or airflow is not required, especially in applications like spandrel areas, curtain walls, transoms and window replacements. These infill panels provide a solution to improve thermal efficiency, conceal structural elements and meet local building codes for sound, fire and impact resistance.

What are the main performance differences between Mapes-R infill panels and insulated glass?

Mapes-R infill panels offer significantly higher thermal values than standard glazing, reaching an R-value of up to 27.9. While a standard 1-inch insulated glass unit has an R-value of approximately 1.79, a 1-inch Mapes-R panel with an isocyanurate core provides an R-value of 6.41. Beyond thermal benefits, these infill panels can be manufactured to be impact-resistant, fire-resistant and graffiti-proof.

Can infill panels be customized to fit different architectural aesthetics?

Yes, custom colors and patterns are available. Mapes-R infill panels can be manufactured to match any architectural finish, including Kynar, anodized and baked enamel. These panels are available with smooth or embossed textures and various skins, along with Kynar in thicknesses ranging from .032 to .125.

What core and substrate options are available for different infill panel requirements?

Mapes-R infill panels can be tailored using cores like isocyanurate for maximum insulation (up to R-27.79) or polystyrene for cost-effectiveness. For fire-rated needs, a Micore® core is available. Substrates can be selected based on project requirements, such as gypsum for fire resistance or cement board and CoreLite for water and impact resistance.
