MapeShield Infill Panel

Impact and Bullet Resistant Infill Panels

IMPACT RESISTANT PANELS

Mapes Panels has developed a large-missile impact resistant line of laminated panels for use in curtain wall, storefront and window applications where design elements require high impact/high load materials. MapeShield panels can be used in any framing system design for this type of application. The panels can match any architectural finish including Kynar, Anodized and Baked Enamel. Custom applications including bullet resistant panels are also available. MapeShield panels are approved for use in Florida and HVHZs (#FL32414).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between MapeShield and reinforced sheetrock?

MapeShield infill panels are laminated architectural panels specifically engineered for exterior use in curtain wall, storefront and window applications where design elements require high-impact and high-load materials. While reinforced sheetrock is a standard interior material, MapeShield features a technical 6-layer cross-section including an exterior skin, high-density hardboard, an impact-resistant layer and an insulating core.

Is MapeShield bulletproof?

MapeShield offers custom-engineered ballistic-rated (BR) panels available in configurations up to UL Level 8. Designed to meet specific security standards, these infill panels provide protection against ballistic threats and forced entry while maintaining consistent architectural finishes across curtain walls, storefronts and secure entrances.

What standards or certifications does MapeShield comply with for hurricane protection?

MapeShield holds formal Florida Product Approval (Certification #FL32414), which signifies that it meets the most stringent resistance criteria. It has passed ASTM E1886 (Missile Impact & Pressure Cycling), ASTM E1996 (Windborne Debris in Hurricanes) and TAS 201/202/203 product test reports. These high-impact infill panels are also blast-rated per DoD UFC 4-010-01 and are specifically engineered to remain non-fragmenting in a blast scenario.

Can MapeShield infill panels be customized to fit different architectural aesthetics?

Yes. MapeShield can match any architectural finish, including Kynar, Anodized and Baked Enamel. These infill panels are available up to 6 inches thick, and custom applications, like bullet-and blast-resistant configurations, are available as well.
